The local shoreline
- Hat Phala (Phala Beach): Ban Chang's own beach — a long, unglamorous, genuinely local shore lined with seafood-grill restaurants on stilts and mats. Not a turquoise postcard; a real Thai beach where families eat and the town relaxes;
- Nam Rin Beach: the nearby stretch with its own casual restaurant scene and calmer swimming spots;
- The naval-managed coast west: toward Sattahip, some of the Eastern Seaboard's cleaner, quieter beaches sit under navy stewardship — day-trip territory (day trips).
What to expect
- These are eating-and-relaxing beaches more than swimming-and-sunbathing ones — the culture is a shaded mat, grilled seafood, a long lazy afternoon;
- Weekends bring Thai families and the beachfront restaurants come alive; weekdays are sleepy;
- For the classic clear-water island experience, Ko Samet is close (day trips) — Ban Chang's beaches are for daily life, not holiday brochures, and that's their charm.
